As soon as the days become shorter and colder, we know the winter is coming. But aside from the cold, the “white months” have their good sides, too. One of them is the Advent season with its traditional Christmas markets, which open their stalls in many places.
In South Tyrol, there are plenty of them and the Christmas markets are well attended every year. You have the choice between the major markets in the cities and smaller ones, which are not less amusing. For example, there is the Tyrol Castle, which offers a special Christmas adventure in a beautiful setting.
This one and some other similar Christmas markets open their doors only on certain weekends in December. But the sellers, artisans and cooks expect you consistently in Bruneck, Brixen, Bolzen, Meran and Sterzing from the end of November to the beginning of January.
The Christmas atmosphere in Meran will certainly warm your heart. The Christmas workshop offers finest craftsmanship, regional cuisine and an extensive cultural program in its rustic wooden huts and stalls. Moreover, additional markets and events are held in many surrounding villages.
In all this places you can experience above all contemplative moments in a magnificent winter wonderland. But nothing is as good as experiencing the unique atmosphere at South Tyrol's Christmas markets oneself.
