Ski holiday in France - Ski resorts France

France offers all in all 220 ski resorts and - with the Mont Blanc region - also Europe’s highest situated ski resort. Ambitious winter sports people will feel like in heaven: there are slopes and powder snow areas for every taste!

Free-riders for example meet in Chamonix at the feet of the mighty Mont-Blanc, slope skiers, however, on the World Cup ski runs of Val d’Isère or in "Les Trois Vallées". Whoever prefers cross-country skiing will feel at ease in Villard-de-Lans, Autrans and Lans-en-Vercors .

Many ski areas in France look back at a long history. Chamonix, for instance, was venue of the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924. But France is known for its well-planned "retort ski areas", too. These ski resorts haven’t grown in an organic way, but they have especially been constructed for winter sports purposes over the last 50 years. Good infrastructure, convenient prices and a great variety of slopes compensate for the shortcoming in natural charm.

As you can see, France offers several kinds of ski holidays. Snowboarders, cross-country skiers and in especially free-skiers have a great variety of choices in different ski areas in the Alps. The most important ski regions are: Upper Savoy, Savoy, Maritime Alpes and Isére.
