Also the convenient location is an advantage: Even though the lowlands are foggy, the sun is shining in the high Toggenburg Valley, at the foot of the Mount Säntis.

The ski resorts are quickly accessible from the three main villages Alt St. Johann, Unterwasser and Wildhaus. In Unterwasser, there is a cable car up to the station of Iltios and further to Chäserrugg, the highest skiing area of Toggenburg.

The ascent is worthwhile already because of the breathtaking panorama. In Alt St. Johann there is a chair lift up to the skiing area of Selamatt. Wildhaus – birthplace of the reformer Zwingli – has the attractive winter sports area of Oberdorf, on 1,230 metres above sea level, and there is also the largest choice of après-ski.

The slopes around the stations of Selamatt, Iltios and Oberdorf are very child-friendly, moderate ski runs can be found on the Gamsalp and on the Mount Chäserrugg.

For the valley runs Chäserrugg-Unterwasser and Gamserrugg-Wildhaus skiers need perseverance. Also the ski runs on the eastern side of Chäserrugg and Gamserrugg are suitable primarily for experienced skiers, as well as the downhill Kollersweid, which is floodlit at night.
