Cosy villages with picturesque old wooden houses and extensive, extremely varied slopes characterise the winter sports region Obersaxen high above the Vorderrhein Valley. It is surprising that skiers haven’t yet discovered this area. But those, who once were here, will always come back.
The region Obersaxen-Lumnezia high above Ilanz and the Vorderrhein is still in the category "insider tip" – although the extensive skiing area between the mountains Piz Mundaun and Piz Sezner is quickly reachable from Chur. Many regular guests enjoy therefore the 120 kilometres of slopes without crush on the lifts, as well as the countless ski runs off the beaten tracks and the tranquillity in the small holiday resorts.
Obersaxen is a German village with 28 hamlets, which disperse on a plateau on 1,100 to 1,400 metres above sea level. On the sunny side of the skiing area hides the Rhaeto-Romanic Val Lumnezia with pristine mountain and farming villages.
The ski resort includes the four mountains Piz Mundaun, Hitzeggen, Stein and Piz Sezner, which are reachable by railways from various sides and attract with fantastic slopes. The sun-kissed slopes on the southern side lead through broad hillsides and offer pure skiing pleasure. The north side is snow-sure and there are easy and moderate slopes, as well as some black ski runs.
The huge snowy basin between Stein and Piz Sezner promises great skiing pleasure. The skiing area attracts with varied ski runs and extensive deep snow slopes. In addition, there are also enticing slopes on the Piz Mundaun or the downhill from the mountain to Sasolas.
