Skiing Gstaad Mountain Rides - Skiing area Gstaad Mountain Rides
Unique: skiing in Gstaad and surroundings
In winter, the world-famous village Gstaad offers a very charming mix of guests: In addition to prominent stars and the rich and beautiful nobility, predominantly "normal" families enjoy here their ski holidays.
As legend has it, God pressed his hand firmly on the ground when he created the Saanenland. The "palm" is now the area for the villages Gstaad and Saanen, the "thumb" prepared the ground for Saanenmöser and Schönried. The "little finger" marked the Chalberhöni, the "ring finger" the Gsteig Valley, the "middle finger" the Lauenen Valley and the "forefinger" the Turbach Valley. And the Almighty has obviously done a good job, because he created a lovely, very scenic and beautiful holiday region in the centre of the Bernese Oberland, which every winter attracts many enthusiastic skiing tourists.
The ski-region Gstaad and the surrounding area includes the Saanenland with the classy village Gstaad, as well as a part of the Obersimmen Valley with the pretty, quiet resorts St. Stephan and Zweisimmen, and Pays d'Enhaut - an open valley circa 1000 metres above sea level. The settlement of Pays d'Enhaut had begun with the establishment of a monastery of the famous order of Cluny in Rougemont.
The entire ski-region is divided into sectors, each with its own ski pass. The TopCard, however, is valid for all rails and ski lifts. The slopes offer enjoyment for all claims and skills and satisfy daredevils and courageous skiers as well as leisurely and easygoing sportsmen.
The three nearest skiing areas of Gstaad in the second sector - Wasserngrat, Wispile and Eggli - offer varied slopes. The majority of them are ideal for newcomers and moderate skiers and therefore adapted also for families. The skiing area between Eggli and Videmanette offers not only the largest selection of slopes, but also scenic highlights: The rugged rocks of Le Rubli form the high alpine backdrop for the ski-runs of Pra Cluen and La Videmanette. There above is also the start of the valley run to Rougemont, which belongs to the most famous, but also most demanding slopes.
The skiing areas of Schönried, Saananmöser, Zweisimmen and St. Stephan offer by far the largest choice of slopes in the region.
