Top skiing areas 2012
Every autumn the renowned „ADAC SkiGuide“ presents the skiing areas in the Alps in a thick reference book, in order to give skiers useful hints for the planning of their winter holidays. In doing so it also chooses the best ones in the categories “alpine skiing”, “cross-country skiing”, “family-/children-friendliness” and “climber of the season”. Find out more about the winners of the winter 2011/12!
The absolute climber of this year is the skiing area Montafon (A) thanks to the extension of the ski region Silvretta Montafon and the construction of two new ski lifts. Not less recommendable are the ski runs of Madonna di Campiglio (I), which was already honored last year, and the skiing area Hochkönig (A) – each with new cabin connections.
In the category “alpine skiing” the Matterhorn Ski Paradies is still one step ahead. The ski runs in Zermatt and in Breuil-Cervinia/Valtournenche (CH/I) offer varied skiing fun, unique panoramas and partly record-breaking slopes. Les Trois Vallées (F) and Paradiski: La Plagne-Les Arcs (F) take second and third place.
As regards “family- and children-friendliness”, the valley of Stubai convinces everyone, because the ski pass for kids under the age of 10 is free and there are many other advantages regarding child care, accommodation and more. The versatile Montafon (A) on second place scores with especially short distances to leisure time facilities and the NovaPark. The car-free Seiser Alm (I) has available for instance big ski kindergartens and very children-friendly lifts.
Last but not least passionate cross-country skiers are entrusted with the 290 kilometers of cross-country courses in Engadin/St. Moritz (CH), because they are really sunny and extensive. Also the cross-country ski runs of the Olympiaregion Seefeld (A) and Ramsau am Dachstein (A) are praised by ADAC.
