Kids on snow & skier’s license

13/01/2012

If you go skiing in a well-attended ski area, if you perhaps aren’t an expert skier yet, if you have beginners with yourself or if you see, who ruthless and dangerous some people tear up the ski runs, the idea of a skier’s license isn’t far-fetched.

Skiing and snowboarding should be fun, but it should be also secure. Thanks to many educational campaigns, compulsory wearing of helmets, monitoring of the ski runs etc. during the last years the sensitivity for the topic safety & winter sports has increased a lot.

A mentionable initiative with the same aim is “kids on snow”. The project was initiated by the German ski instructor association and can be seen as modern physical education that puts the accent on fun and safety for the kids.

First and foremost children should not only learn the sequence of movements of popular winter sports, but also derive pleasure from movement by playful and secure practice. Therefore “kids on snow” includes a number of concessionary ski schools in many German ski areas. With their support children can learn the foundation of secure skiing and snowboarding.

The skiing lessons take place in different “kids on snow” arenas, which can be chosen according to the children’s needs and skills: from the first attempts in the beginners’ arena through the cross and speed arena to the nature arena with natural environs.

In order to guarantee secure skiing fun, little skiers should improve their abilities on skis, but also know fundamental rules on the slopes and put them to practice. That is to say, they don’t learn just how to move on ski, but also to go skiing with great awareness, to discern risks and dangers and to attend to other skiers. Then the skiing kids can obtain a blue, red or black skier’s license.

Moreover in the context of the “kids on snow tour” till mid-March 2012 there are taking place exciting snow events on different locations, offering a fantastic entertainment and skiing program for the whole family
