Freeride at its best: X Over Ride
You glide over almost unspoiled deep snow slopes, just surrounded by knee-deep powder snow and brilliant sunlight. Here do you make a cool cliff jump, there you get over the snowy obstacles offered by nature. This is no dream, but freeride reality on Mt. Kitzsteinhorn. Ideal conditions for the X Over Ride 2012.
For a long time the skiing area Zell am See-Kaprun and Mt. Kitzsteinhorn have been recognized as a hot spot for freeriders and since 2004 it is regularly venue for competitions in the disciplines freeride, slopestyle and pipe for skiers and snowboarders. At the beginning it was a small freeride cross event, but today it is a renowned meeting, luring passionate freeriders from all over the world to the glacier in Salzburg.
This year’s edition of the X Over Ride takes place from 22nd to 25th March and it something very special. For the first time it is rated as 3-star qualifier of the Freeride World Tour, probably the most important freeride tour. On the one hand this reflects the high level of this event. On the other hand the pros of the scene have one more reason to participate. After all they have to do not only with varied freeride routes, best powder snow and a lot of fun, but also with considerable prize money and first of all important points for the ranking.
On the starting line of the X Over Ride
According to the motto “Back to the Roots” the X Over Ride 2012 is hold as Big Mountain contest. The grids are limited and primarily there will participate the best freeriders of the current Freeride World Tour ranking list. In addition in the run-up to the competition on 17th March there is scheduled an open qualification, where the first eight riders will get a ticket for the main contest.
This main contest will consist of two run on 23th and 24th March on two different slopes. First the 70 participants have to overcome the distance between Mt. Geißstein (2,230 m) and the lodge Salzburgerhütte (1,860 m). The next day the top 35 tackle the freeride route between Lakarschneid (2,652 m) and Häuslalm Langwied (1,970 m).
Supporting program
Of course the X Over Ride is accompanied also by an appealing supporting program for participants and fans in the impressing Ice Camp with igloos, ice works of art and relaxing atmosphere. Next to it there is an avalanche field, where you can learn how to handle with avalanche transceiver and more. And for tireless riders there are waiting the popular snowparks of the skiing area Kitzsteinhorn.
