World Snow Day
Explore, enjoy, experience! Discover something new, have fun and spend an unforgettable day, this the center of attention of the World Snow Day dedicated to: snow, kids and a lot of pleasure. The the international day of action is scheduled for the 20th January 2013 and it will be the biggest event on snow all year – with countless small and large specials all around the world.
The World Snow Day is part of the FIS campaign “Bring Children to the Snow”, leaked in 2007 in order to increase the interest of children and teens in snow disciplines. In view of the declining number of sporting kids the International Ski Federation FIS wants to fill more people with enthusiasm, to promote skiing and snowboarding as leisure time activity for children and to motivate families to spend time together.
With this in mind also the World Snow Day wants to give kids and their families the opportunity to get to know different activities in the snow on different places. It wants to concern beginners as well as all others, who have already discovered snow and winter sports. Moreover the World Snow Day serves as information platform as regards environmental protection, health and safety.
So the Snow Day represents a large framework for the realization of all imaginable ideas around the topic snow. Everybody, who wants to organize something special and to celebrate this day in a particular way, is invited to contribute.
For instance in numerous winter sport areas all around the world there are arranged SnowZones with live music, entertainment program and a snow activities for the whole family: from tobogganing, igloos and snowmen through presentations of sport equipment, fun races and meetings with stars to photo and video competitions, ski courses and much more.
A lot of winter sport regions in the Alps are participating in the World Snow Day, too. For example in the Sexten Dolomites (I) there takes place an event called “Helm Juchiza”, a unique race on snow shovels. In Cortina d`Ampezzo children are welcome for the "Champions day". Garmisch-Partenkirchen (D) invites young guests coming from SOS Children’s Villages to spend a day on the slopes.
On the World Snow Day in Kitzbühel (A) kids and teenager have free admission to the legendary Hahnenkamm race, furthermore there are offered some surprises for them in the finish area. In Courchevel (F) there is organized “Mum, Dad and Me” with special offers of the local ski schools.
