"Böckl" race on Mt. Kronplatz
You’ve already tried skiing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and ice skating? What about an enjoyable ride on a “Böckl”? The simplest model of this sports equipment consists of a short ski, a seat and two grab handles. As soon as you have mastered the quite easy riding technique, you can use your "Böckl" even for (more or less serious) speed competitions – as the "Böckl" race on Mt. Kronplatz impressively proves.
A "Böckl" is a really special winter sports equipment, which always gets lots of admiring glances. According to local “Böckl” pioneers the „Böckl“ was invented in Olang at the foot of Mt. Kronplatz. Whatever the case might be, in any case the region is full of passionate “Böckl” riders and once in a while they also like it to provide proof of their ability.
Therefore the local “Böckl” club called “Die Geilen Böcke” on February 14, 2012 organizes the third edition of the “Böckl” race. All “Böckl” fans and all interested winter sportsmen are welcome!
The first two editions of this race were held on the former Panorama slope, but this year the organizers venture to tackle a new venue. It is located in the district Gassl next to the valley station of the ski area Kronplatz and it is presumed to be quite ingenious and maybe also slightly more demanding.
But don’t worry, everybody can take part. If you aren’t looking for the gold medal, the general main focus isn’t a new speed record, but the special experience and a lot of fun. This is true for the race, as well as for the ensuing “Böckl” party in the popular après-ski pub “Gassl”.
The race start is scheduled for 5.00 pm. On the floodlight slope the participants will compete in different categories, for instance children, nostalgia and race. Even doubles, probably the most spectacular group, will accept the challenge.
If you don’t possess a “Böckl”, you absolutely should get one or rent one on the ground. For “Böckl” beginners and all others, who would like to practice riding technique, balance and cornering, there is offered a free training in the eve of the race.
