Stilfser Joch

On hot summer days, when you can’t really do sports, many of you will dream of a cool ski adventure in winter. In South Tyrol you can fulfill that dream. The Stilfser Joch glacier in Vinschgau is the only ski resort in the Alps that opens only in summer.

From May to November, 30 km of slopes offer the perfect alternative to any summer sport. On mostly easy and moderately difficult ski runs everyone should find what he likes. Snowboarders and freestyle skiers come to Stilfser Joch to practice their tricks in the half pipe in summer, too.

Ski aces such as Gustav Thöni, Alberto Tomba and of course current national ski teams have their summer training on the glacier. In winter, however, there isn’t anything going on in this area – except for avalanches. That’s why the pass road and everything around is closed till May.

But in summer you don’t have to worry about that. The many ski schools with their certified instructors ensure safety on the slopes. So the skiing area Stilfser Joch guarantees to be great fun for beginners as well as for advanced skiers – and that at reasonable prices, in summer, where every other ski resort is closed. So get out of the swimming trunks and into the ski boots!
