The Virgen Valley and Kals offer impressive views and beautiful landscapes. In the middle of the two mightiest mountains of Austria, Mount Großglockner and Mount Großvenediger, winter tourists find their paradise in the still mostly untouched and pristine nature of Eastern Tyrol.

The Kalsertal Valley leads directly to the Mount Großglockner (3798m) and the Virgen Valley is located at the feet of Mount Großvenediger (3674m). This dramatic mountain scenery surely isunique and difficult to be outdone.

Around Matrei, the biggest ski area of the region spreads out. At the parking lot, the cable car Goldried goes directly up to the skiing area at 2190 meters above sea level. For the smallest guests there is a child park directly next to the mountain station. Numerous and very varied ski runs promise pleasure for beginners and also more ambitious skiers.

From Mount Cimaroß (in 2405 m) a tour ski-run leads to Kals. Unfortunately, there is no way back to Matrei. On the ski mountain Glocknerblick in Kals, skiers find the highest mountain of Austria directly before their eyes. From the mountain station Blauspitz (2305 meters) two ski runs lead down to the bottom of the valley.
